Start Your Journey

  • Theme Scripture:

Isaiah 58:6-12 Is not this the fast that I choose, to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the straps of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free and to break every yoke. Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, and bring the homeless poor into your house? When you see the naked to cover him and not to hide yourself from your own flesh? Then shall your light break forth like the dawn, and your healing shall spring up speedily, your righteousness shall go before you, the glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard. Then you shall call, and the Lord will answer, you shall cry and he will say, “Here I am. If you take away the yoke from your midst, the pointing of the finger and speaking wickedness. If you pour yourself out for the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted. Then shall your light rise in the darkness, and your gloom be as the noonday.” And the Lord will guide you continually and satisfy your desire in scorched places and make your bones strong and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water whose waters do not fail and your ancient ruins shall be rebuilt. You shall raise up the foundations of many generations. You shall be called the repairer of the breach, the restorer of streets to dwell in.”

    Thought for Day 1:

As you start your 14-day journey of prayer and fasting with the City Takers Movement, I want you to reflect on Isaiah 58:6-12. These verses not only guide our fast but also contain powerful promises when we align our actions with God's heart for justice and compassion.

Isaiah 58:6-12 presents a divine exchange: if we break the yoke of oppression, refrain from pointing fingers, and extend ourselves to meet the needs of the oppressed, then the Lord promises a response. He will be attentive to our cries, saying, "Here am I." Moreover, your light will pierce the darkness, and your nights will shine like the noonday.

    His Promises:

    • Divine Response: The Lord will answer your calls and be present when you cry out for help.

    • Transformational Light: Your light will rise in the darkness, turning your night into brightness.

    • Guidance and Satisfaction: The Lord will guide you continually, satisfy your needs, and strengthen you even in challenging circumstances.

    • Overflowing Abundance: You will be like a well-watered garden, a spring whose waters never fail.

    • Rebuilding and Restoration: Your acts of compassion will lead to the rebuilding of ancient ruins and the restoration of age-old foundations. You will be called the Repairer of Broken Walls and the Restorer of Streets with Dwellings.

    Reflection:

    • Breaking the Yoke: Reflect on areas in your life where the yoke of oppression needs to be broken. How can you contribute to this divine process?

    • Shining Your Light: Consider the ways your life can be a transformative light in the darkness. What steps can you take to bring brightness to the lives of those around you?

    • Overflowing Abundance: Imagine your life as a well-watered garden, overflowing with abundance. How can your actions contribute to this spiritual richness in your life and the lives of others?

    • Repairing and Restoring: Contemplate the idea of being a Repairer of Broken Walls and Restorer of Streets with Dwellings. In what ways can you actively participate with City Takers in rebuilding and restoring the broken areas around you?

    Prayer:

Heavenly Father, as I begin this 14-day fast in Isaiah 58:6-12, I come before you with a heart eager to align with Your promises. I acknowledge areas in my life where the yoke of oppression needs to be broken. I bring these specific burdens to You, trusting in Your promise to respond when we call.

Lord, in the areas where darkness prevails, I ask for the transformative light promised in Your Word. Let Your light pierce through every shadow, bringing clarity, hope, and the brightness of Your presence.

Lord, guide me continually… As I seek to meet the needs of the oppressed, satisfy my desires, and strengthen me in the midst of life’s challenges. I desire to be like a well-watered garden, a spring whose waters never fail. Pour Your abundance into my life and overflow it to those around me.

In the process of breaking down the walls of oppression, I pray for the rebuilding of ancient ruins and the restoration of foundations. Make me a Repairer of Broken Walls and a Restorer of Streets with Dwellings, as Your Word promises.

Jesus, as I fast and seek Your face, grant me the grace to actively participate in the fulfillment of Your promises. Break the yokes, illuminate the darkness, and rebuild what is broken. I trust that as I take these steps in faith, You will respond saying, "Here am I."

In the name of Jesus, I pray.

    Amen.

    Thought for Day 2:

As you continue your 14-day journey of prayer and fasting with the City Takers Movement, reflect on the mission set before us in Matthew 28:19-20. This mission goes beyond borders and calls us to make disciples, spreading God's love to the nations.

    Prayer:

Heavenly Father, as I walk into Day 2 of this 14-day fast, I focus on the mission set before me in Matthew 28:19-20. Ignite in me a passion for transformational impact in Your Kingdom. May my actions be dynamic, generous, and unwavering in faith as I contribute to transforming lives, making disciples, and declaring breakthroughs.

Lord, I trust in Your constant presence as I actively participate in Your mission on this earth. Guide me, strengthen me, and let Your love flow through me to reach every corner of the world. Let me know what I need to be giving financially toward Your work in the city and beyond.

In this journey of dynamic generosity, help me actively contribute to transforming lives and declaring breakthroughs. Open my eyes to practical ways I can make a difference in my daily interactions and engagements.

In the powerful name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

In the powerful name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

Galatians 5:22-23 "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law."

Today, center your attention on nurturing your inner self. Galatians 5:22-23 beautifully describes the fruits of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. These are all things that money can't buy. Thought for Day 5:

How can you deepen your prayer life? Let's take in the wisdom from Philippians 4:6-7, inviting a deeper experience in our prayer life. • Explore the transformative power of allowing God's peace to infiltrate your thoughts and emotions. How can a guarded heart and mind impact your daily interactions and responses to life's challenges?

    Prayer:

Jesus, teach me the power of consistent and intentional prayer. May my requests be met with Your understanding, and may Your peace guard my hearts and mind in Christ Jesus. Grant me discernment, O Lord, to walk alongside the wise, choosing companions whose presence contributes not only to my personal growth but also to the well-being of my soul. May the connections I make be infused with Your wisdom and joy, becoming a source of strength and inspiration.

Father, I surrender every relationship at Your feet, I give You full permission to reveal any that may be unhealthy or detrimental to my journey. If there are bonds that hinder rather than nurture, I trust You to show me and grant me the courage to let them go. May Your hand continue to guide me, directing my steps toward those who align with Your purpose for my life.

Protect me Lord, from harmful influences and misguided connections. Shield me with Your heavenly wisdom, making me resilient in the face of adversity. May the relationships I cultivate be a reflection of Your love and purpose.

  • (Embracing Your Creativity)

    Theme Scripture:

Genesis 1:27 "God created mankind in His own image, in the image of God, He created them; male and female, He created them."

    Thoughts on Day 7:

As we approach the 7th day of prayer and fasting, reflect on the profound truth that you are created in the image of the Creator Himself, as highlighted in Genesis 1:27. Recognize that within you lies a divine spark of creativity, a unique reflection of God's own nature. Contemplate how embracing and expressing your creativity can be a sacred form of worship, allowing you to manifest the image of God in your life.

Now I know what you're thinking… I can't sing or draw for nothing. I am not creative at all. I think In our culture, there's a common misconception that creativity is exclusively tied to artistic expressions—painting, music, writing, or other traditional forms of artistry. However, the profound truth illuminated by Genesis 1:27 challenges this narrow perspective. When we acknowledge that we are made in the image of God, the Creator of the entire universe and humanity, we broaden our understanding of creativity.

God, as the ultimate Creator, expressed His creativity not only in the artistic design of galaxies, mountains, and oceans but also in the intricate details of every living being. Therefore, when we recognize that we carry the divine imprint of the Creator within us, it reframes our perception of creativity. It extends far beyond the canvas or the stage—it reaches into every aspect of our lives.

Consider the person who transforms a house into a warm and welcoming home, infusing it with love, care, and unique touches. That act is a manifestation of creativity. Think about the individual who navigates complex problem-solving at work or in daily life, finding innovative solutions—that, too, is an expression of creativity.

Creativity is found in the way a teacher imparts knowledge, a chef crafts a new recipe, a parent nurtures a child's imagination, or an entrepreneur envisions and builds a business. It's embedded in the caregiver who tends to the needs of others with compassion and resourcefulness. Each of these instances reflects the diverse spectrum of creativity that exists within the human experience.

So, let's get rid of the idea that creativity is reserved for a select few. Instead, embrace the understanding that creativity is woven into the very fabric of our existence, manifesting uniquely in each individual.

    His Promises:

    • God's Creative Image: Embracing and expressing your creativity is a recognition of the divine image of God within you, fostering a deeper connection with the Creator.

    • Worshipful Expression: Your creative endeavors become a form of worship, enabling you to honor God through the unique gifts and talents He has graciously bestowed upon you.

    Reflection:

    • Recognizing Your Unique Expression: In what areas of your life do you recognize your unique expression of creativity? Consider the aspects of your daily routine, work, or personal endeavors where you bring innovation and originality. How does this reflect your creative nature?

    • Nurturing Creativity in Your Environment: What steps can you take to nurture and encourage creativity in your environment, whether it's your home, workplace, or community? Think about how fostering a culture that recognizes and celebrates diverse expressions of creativity can enhance the collective experience.

    • Creative Worship: Consider weaving your creativity into your worship. How can your creative expressions become an offering of praise and gratitude to God?

    Prayer:

Heavenly Father, on this 7th day of prayer and fasting, I stand in awe of Your truth declared in Genesis 1:27—that I am created in Your image. In recognizing this spark of creativity within me, I understand that creativity extends far beyond traditional artistic pursuits. It's a reflection of Your boundless creativity manifested in the vast universe and in the intricate details of humanity.

Lord, help me embrace the understanding that creativity is woven into the fabric of my being, expressing itself in various aspects of my life. As I reflect on the roles I play—whether as a friend, family member, professional, or community member—reveal to me the unique ways in which I bring innovation, originality, and creativity to each role.

Even expand my perspective, to appreciate and celebrate diverse forms of creativity. Open my eyes to the creative acts present in problem-solving, relationship-building, and even in the way I organize and decorate my space. Let me value the creative contributions of others, recognizing the richness that different expressions of creativity bring to my community and workplace.

Lord, in this prayer, I surrender any constraints imposed by culture or self-imposed limitations on creativity. Grant me the courage to redefine and expand these notions, allowing my authentic creative identity to flourish.

Thank you, Father, for the beautiful diversity of creativity that exists within and around me. In the name of Jesus, who embodies the ultimate expression of creativity, I pray. Amen.

  • (Embracing Rest)

    Theme Scripture:

Matthew 11:28-30 "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."

    Thoughts on Day 11:

We're here… Day 11, let's all embrace the concept of rest as guided by Matthew 11:28-30. In a culture that often glorifies busyness, Jesus invites us to find rest in Him. Recognize that rest is not only a physical necessity but a consistent spiritual practice.

Consider the weariness and burdens you may be carrying in this season, and bring them to Jesus. Reflect on the gentle and humble nature of Christ, understanding that His yoke is easy, and His burden is light. Embrace the invitation to rest for your soul in the midst of life's demands.

  • (Anchoring in Identity)

    Theme Scripture:

Psalm 139:13-14 "For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well."

    Thoughts on Day 12:

On this 12th day of our journey, let's anchor ourselves in the profound truth of our identity in Psalm 139:13-14. Recognize that God intricately formed you, knitting together every aspect of your being. Embrace the reality that you are fearfully and wonderfully made.

In a world that bombards us with labels and attempts to conform us to its standards, consider the significance of standing firm in the identity designed by your Creator. The world may encourage us to "live our truth," a notion often contrary to the teachings of Scripture. Instead of conforming to fleeting ideologies, anchor yourself in the timeless truth that God's works in your life are truly wonderful.

Reflect on the pressure to adopt fluid identities based on the whims of the world. In a culture that may urge you to be anything you feel like at the moment, find strength in the unchanging identity bestowed upon you by God. Your soul knows well the wonderful works of your Creator, and it is in this truth that you find your genuine self.

    His Promises:

    • Intricately Formed: God formed your inward parts and knitted you together with intentionality.

    • Fearfully and Wonderfully Made: Embrace the truth that you are fearfully and wonderfully made by the Creator.

    • Resisting Worldly Labels: Reflect on the pressure from the world to adopt labels and identities contrary to God's design. How can you resist conforming to the standards of the world and anchor yourself in your identity in Christ?

    • Standing Firm in Truth: Consider the significance of standing firm in the truth of being fearfully and wonderfully made. How does this identity bring resilience in the face of worldly pressures?

    Prayer:

Heavenly Father, on this 12th day of my fast, I anchor myself in the truth of Psalm 139:13-14. Thank you for forming my inward parts and intricately knitting me together. I embrace the reality that I am fearfully and wonderfully made and when You made me, You didn’t make a mistake.

In a world that may seek to define me with labels and fleeting identities, help me resist conforming to its standards. Instead of "living my truth" according to worldly whims, may I stand firm in “The timeless Truth” of being fearfully and wonderfully made by You.

Guide me to resist the pressure to be anything I feel like at the moment, finding strength in the unchanging identity bestowed upon me by You. My soul knows well the wonderful works You have accomplished in shaping who I am.

In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.

  • (Amplifying Faith)

    Theme Scripture:

Hebrews 11:1 "Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen."

    Thoughts on Day 13:

We’re almost there… This is day 13th of our journey, let's jump into the essence of faith illuminated in Hebrews 11:1. Faith is not merely a passive acknowledgment; it is the assurance of things hoped for and the conviction of things not seen. Reflect on the dynamic nature of faith—it's a force that propels us forward, enabling us to lay hold of God's promises even when they are not immediately visible in our lives.

In a world that often emphasizes tangible evidence, faith stands as a testament to the spiritual realm, where our assurance is rooted in the trustworthiness of God. Consider the power of faith to amplify your connection with the unseen, enabling you to confidently hope for the promises of God. Allow your faith to be a vibrant force that shapes your perspectives and actions, knowing that it has the potential to move mountains.

    His Promises:

    • Assurance of Hope: Faith provides assurance for the things hoped for, grounding our expectations in God's promises.

    • Conviction of the Unseen: Faith brings conviction to the things not seen, allowing us to navigate the spiritual realm with confidence.

    Reflection:

    • Dynamic Nature of Faith: Reflect on the dynamic and active nature of faith. How can you cultivate a vibrant and active faith that propels you forward in your journey with God?

    • Trusting in the Unseen: Consider the challenge of trusting in the unseen. How can you strengthen your faith in God's promises, especially when tangible evidence is lacking? What are some simple things you can implement that will build your faith?

    Prayer:

Heavenly Father, on this 13th day of our fast, I meditate on the essence of faith outlined in Hebrews 11:1. Thank you for the assurance of things hoped for and the conviction of things not seen that faith brings into our lives.

As I navigate a world that often demands visible proof, empower me to cultivate a dynamic faith—a force that propels me forward, enabling me to confidently hope for your promises even when they are not immediately visible. May my faith be vibrant, shaping my perspectives and actions, and moving mountains in alignment with Your will.

In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
